Vishuddha: The Throat Chakra

the chakras

The throat chakra (Vishuddha) is located in the middle of the throat. It is associated with our creative identity and the colour blue. This chakra is about self-expression, truth, communication, and resonance. Speech is not just about what you communicate but also how you communicate it. The language of our words profoundly affects how we feel and who we are. A lot of our creativity is tied up in the throat centre as we learn to express our authentic selves through our lives.

When this chakra is out of alignment, you might feel silenced, muted, and unable to express your truth, or you might find that you don't know how to articulate what you feel. This might happen from being shut down by others in the past which eventually turns into unexpressed feelings.

The throat chakra is linked to our personal integrity. When we mean what we say, unashamed of the truth of our expression, we can influence the way that people perceive us. We become more resilient in our thinking when we speak our truth and are honest. The throat chakra is healthy when we are able to listen silently (within our very being), because our self-expression is only as powerful as our internal connection to truth. This means that we must affirm our worthiness and detach from the need to please others. Do you think we still live in a culture that values free speech? I hope so.

Emotional suppression stops energy flow, like that feeling of having a frog in your throat or a cat got your tongue: there is a felt blockage, and a failure to say what you feel. When we realise what we need to express, we develop a better understanding of who we are.

Affirmations are a good practice to integrate into the subconscious mind. What truths do you need to remember? I am comfortable is sometimes one that I use when I'm feeling nervous.

Be aware of your own speech and how you express yourself verbally and non verbally. The throat is also an access point to all things we consume (food and drink and perhaps other substances). What we put into our bodies has an affect on our emotions and moods as well.

Reflect:

What affirmation(s) could be helpful to use right now?

When do you feel most connected to your creativity and self-expression? Can you sense the truth of your being in those moments?

Are you a good communicator? Could you improve some communication skills?
