Swadisthana: The Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra (Swadisthana) is at the lower abdomen, below the navel in the centre of the pelvis. This chakra is associated with our emotional identity and the colour orange. This place is the centre of our desire, gratification, needs, sexuality, intimacy, and pleasure. It also has to do with the feeling of deservedness, and our ability to receive the gifts from our experiences. A healthy sacral chakra is creative, inspired, passionate and sensual. When this chakra is not in alignment, there is a tendency to lack motivation, passion, and inspiration for our creative pursuits which can leave a gap in the pleasure of our lives, and we can end up filling that with addictive behaviours that diminish our life force.
The Sacral area is like an unconscious realm where our attitudes about ourselves create our physical well-being (or lack thereof). This is the place we draw upon our energy reserves as well as conserving energy. You can lose energy and vitality when you have a lack of pleasure, if you are harsh and punishing on yourself, or if you are over-indulgent in stimulants that give short term satisfaction but are ultimately irritating. A healthy balance is neither pleasure seeking nor pleasure depriving. This is about deserving the abundance of what life has to offer, which is just a choice.
You feel light when you feel well. Feeling well does not mean feeling happy all the time, because the expectation that we are meant to feel like that just leads to anxiety, as we can see this is evident in our culture. Giving space to feel what you feel (whatever it is) means that you don't have to suppress or repress your emotions. What is unexpressed gets stuck in the body as tension.
The pelvis is a basin for the vital organs (vitality). Remember that you are worthy of the right to enjoy life and to love yourself and others. We, as humans, seem to have a habit of cumulating negative holding patterns that can get trapped in our gut which ultimately revolve around fear. How can we release this turmoil? Usually we turn away and ignore this inner state of something not quite being right (or get ultra fixated on it until its too intense to handle), but we can embrace this as part of our human experience which ultimately fuels our passions and desires. Experience your feelings without them getting trapped in your energy body by acknowledging what is arising in any given moment.
Reflect:
Do you think that you deserve the life you want?
Do you feel worthy of joy, pleasure, and abundance?
How do you conduct your energy? How do you deplete your energy stores, and how do you recharge your batteries?
